Designer Denis Guidone’s Suprematism Watch homage to the abstract Russian Suprematist art movement is a bold Projects Watches timepiece ripe with color, shape and movement. Suprematism, the invention of Russian artist Kazimir Malevich circa 1913, was one of the earliest and most radical developments in abstract art. Its name derived from Malevich's belief that Suprematist art would be superior to all the art of the past, and that it would lead to the supremacy of pure feeling or perception in the pictorial arts. Suprematism's 37mm unisex case is made of black IPB stainless steel and paired with a black silicone band.

Zebra by Kay Bojesen

At the start of the 1920s, Kay Bojesen (Danish, 1886–1958) started creating wooden toys. At the time, Bojesen spent his summers abroad and was inspired by animals from far flung places such as Africa and South-America. Following earlier crafts in silver, during which he was inspired by the structural clarity of Danish design and the natural colors of silver/wood, the designer created the Zebra for the Danish Rosendahl design firm in 1932. Impressed by the quality of these handcrafted wooden toys, Danish consumers were further introduced to additional animals, monkeys, elephants, dogs, bears, who welcomed the zebra into their magical world, and gave him access to all the tools and resources he needed to express his creativity in wood. In exchange, the Victoria and Albert museum in London in the nineteen-fifties would exhibit his entire range of wooden figurines in the 1950s. The Zebra - which today is considered a design classic - is being re-introduced through design shop NOVA68 - in the original edition featuring a white lacquered beech body with a black striped design.

Modern tabletop sculpture inspired by the forms of Alexander Calder. I really enjoy the stabiles by Alexander Calder. Whenever I go to Paris, I visit the Arche de la Défense. They have on view one of the best stabiles of Alexander Calder sculpture. The piece on display is the "Grand Stabile Rouge" which was installed in 1976 and measures a whopping 15 meters in height. I always think of Caldern's modernist forms whenever I am practicing my craft of creating Calder inspired tabletop sculptures. This all-metal stabile is a miniture size 12inch long by 8inch high by 12inch wide. It is finished with a rich and vibrant powder coating in red, blue and yellow for durability. It was made in the USA by master metal craftsmen. Alexander Calder was the most important American sculptor of the 20th century, and the most popular and internationally celebrated sculptor of the post-war period. The foundation of Calder's approach was metal works, something he derived not only from European modernism, but also from children's toys. He abandoned the process of factory-made casting that had been the basis for other modern artists such as Henry Moore, and instead worked on materials directly. He liked the fierce involvement brought with materials such as metal and painted them in vibrantly bright colors such as reds, yellows and blues. Watching the slow motion of this stabile is a remedy against stress and it looks stunning in any interior.

The original kettle design featured a conical stainless-steel body with a plastic bird-shaped whistle at the end of the spout. These functional 18/10 stainless steel mirror polished kettles, now outfitted with dragons, capture the fusion of function and form for which Michael Graves is famous for. The Alessi Tea Rex tea kettle gives you Alessi's boiling power without the hassle of a cord. We had a chance to review the Alessi non-electric Dragon Whistle powers of Alessi's Tea Rex Kettle at our office. Producing a similar high-pitched whistle tone compared to the whistling bird kettle; this new release is constructed with an air-tight lid, a stay-cool handle, quality stainless steel and a PA plastic dragon whistle. The Alessi TEA REX water kettle is available with either black handle (copper metallic dragon whistle) or light blue handle (light green dragon). The choice of the little whistle shaped like a dragon is a reference on the part of Michael Graves to Chinese culture for whom these beings symbolise strength and fortune. The wording Tea Rex 9093 30th anniversary is stamped on the lid of the kettle.

Naef Bauhaus Cradle

One hundred years after the founding of the Bauhaus in Weimar, another Bauhaus replica now enriches the Naef product range: a miniature version of Peter Keler's cradle. This collector's item is a replica of the historic cradle designed by Peter Keler in 1922 during his apprenticeship at the Bauhaus. The small cradle is congruent to the original in color, shape and proportions at a of scale lil, and to a large extent, is carefully hand crafted. The original cradle of that time can be seen in the Bauhaus Museum Weimar, when it isn't on tour with their worldwide exhibitions. Since the mid-1970s, the cradle has been produced by Tecta as an, Original Bauhaus model". The first coloured design drawing is in the Tecta Kragstuhl Museum. The cradle was designed by Peter Keler for the bedroom furnishings in the show home „Am Horn". The desig is rigid, the look colorful. The basic geometrical shapes of the rectangle, triangle and circle define the design and the color choice reveals the influence of the former teachers at the Bauhaus. According to the color theory of Wassily Kandinsky and Johannes Itten, the primary colors red, yellow and blue correspond to the elementary geometric forms rectangle, triangle and circle respectively. The strict geometric design is broke by two woven rattan surfaces on either side of the bed. These are not decorative elements, but allow for air circulation within the cradle. 
 

 
This reduced form and color language in the service of function was likely provocative at the time. Today, the cradle is a symbol of Bauhaus design.

Soon after its introduction, Verner Panton began to consider the idea of producing a child-size version of the chair together with Vitra. What was financially unfeasible over 35 years ago is now possible: Vitra introduces the Panton Junior, whose production is based on the original plans of Verner Panton. Identical to the regular model with regard to material and shape, the Panton Junior is approximately 25 percent smaller and available in seven different colours. This makes it an ideal chair for children in pre-school and primary grades.
